Weather
Calgary weather in July is typically the warmest and most pleasant of the year, but it can still be variable due to the city’s high altitude and proximity to the Rocky Mountains. Keep an eye on the local weather forecast as your visit approaches to make any last-minute adjustments to your packing.
Here’s a guide to help you pack and dress appropriately:
- Temperature:
- Daytime highs typically range from 22°C to 26°C (72°F to 79°F), while nighttime lows can drop down to a refreshing 10°C to 13°C (50°F to 55°F). Heatwaves can occasionally push daytime temperatures above 30°C (86°F).Conditions: You will mostly enjoy bright, sunny days, but Calgary’s dry climate is prone to sudden afternoon thunderstorms, heavy rain, or even brief hail snaps. Evenings cool down quickly once the sun sets.
- What to wear:
- The key to staying comfortable is packing versatile pieces for warm afternoons and cooler evenings.
- We recommend:
- Breathable T-shirts, shorts, summer dresses, and lightweight pants for daytime exploring. A mid-layer sweater, hoodie, or fleece jacket paired with a lightweight waterproof rain shell for unpredictable mountain weather and cool nights. Comfortable walking shoes, sneakers, or sturdy sandals for urban exploration. Bring broken-in hiking boots if you plan to head west into the Rockies. A wide-brimmed sun hat or baseball cap, UV-blocking sunglasses, and a light jacket. (A plaid button-down shirt is a bonus if you are visiting during the famous Calgary Stampede!) Broad-spectrum sunscreen (SPF 30+), lip balm, a reusable water bottle to stay hydrated in the arid climate, and a portable power bank for long days outside.
